Nikola Tesla described smartphones exactly 100 years ago

The recently published archives of Popular Mechanics magazine, among other things, have opened a remarkable article " Wireless of the Future ", dated 1909. It is dedicated to the mobile communication of the future, which is argued by the famous inventor and engineer Nikola Tesla. He mentions the invention of the telegraph and says that this is only the beginning, and in the future it will be possible to transmit voice, music and images from a distance. At the same time, Tesla gives a surprisingly accurate description of modern mobile phones: these are compact devices “no more than hours”, which you can carry with you at any time and at any time contact any subscriber, including overseas. Nikola Tesla says that “one station will be able to manage the work of millions of such devices” (talking about mobile operators) and this invention “will open a new era of technology”.

Tesla added that the transmission of energy at a distance will not only allow the phones to work, but even control the engines of the ship from the coast station, transmitting energy through the air.
