An error on the website caused an increase in oil prices

World oil prices rose slightly on Wednesday after a local television station in Oklahoma posted on its website false information about a fire at a refinery. The whole world disgraced channel KOTV, a division of CBS.

The journalists of the channel reported that lightning struck the plant. This triggered a stir among stock traders, who traditionally are in expectation of such news to quickly react to them. The market is now very sensitive to negative news. In this case, the price of crude oil instantly jumped 40 cents.

Representatives of the refinery announced that the information on lightning and fire was “absolutely wrong”, and the news was soon removed from the website.
