Millions of archival data on the Great Patriotic War will now be available on the Internet
To the anniversary of the Victory, the Ministry of Defense opens up access to the archives of war on the Internet. On the website of the Ministry of Defense, anyone who wishes can find information about a soldier or officer who has shown courage on the battlefield.
At the time of publication of this post, the number of appeals to the archive has already exceeded 344 thousand:
Hundreds of millions of wartime sheets are continuously scanned and entered into a computer (the total volume of the original archive files is 100 million sheets and a total weight of about 400 tons (!)). This is only the beginning of a large project called "Feat of the People." Upon its completion in 2012, an archive of award affairs with documents on 30 million wartime awards and an archive of documents on the operational management of hostilities will become publicly available. This project has no world analogues in terms of volume, historical and social significance.
