Wikipedia on new community pages on Facebook

Earlier this week, Facebook announced the launch of community pages, pages based on topics of interest to the community that are not supported by a single author. Pages with a single author include the pages of a group or company that intends to promote a group or company. Instead, community pages are based on the concept of “collective knowledge”, which lies at the heart of Wikipedia. Community pages include Wikipedia content distributed under one of the Creative Commons licenses .

For example, look at the Gastronomy community page. The page contains the content directly imported from CC BY-SA from the Cooking article from Wikipedia. All links to Wikipedia are retained, including direct links for editing information. At the bottom of the page, the content source is clearly indicated, with links to the CC BY-SA license and the history of this article: image

Wikipedia articles on Facebook will further increase the coverage of free knowledge on the Internet. Facebook has hundreds of millions of users and currently more than 70% of their traffic comes from outside the United States. We hope that many Facebook users (if they have not already done so) will also be inclined to join the huge community of Wikipedia members. Facebook will follow free licenses (CC-BY-SA) and help us find new ways in which people can share knowledge. In addition, we will look for other ways through which both parties will be able to cooperate in the future.
