What can combine art and science, creativity, unlimited imagination of a world-famous designer and accuracy of the algorithm? - The company Materialize, it seems, found the answer to this question.
You have already seen how 3D printing is used in medicine , architecture and the automotive industry , but this is far from the limit on how this technology can be used. Today I would like to tell you about how our technology is applied by the world's best designers and to share some unique samples of products that are part of the newest collection of .MGX - the design department of Materialize.

About .MGX
.MGX brings together world-class designers such as Lux Merx, Bathsheba Grossmann , Patrick Jouin, and others , making it possible, using unique 3D printing technology, to create products that create an almost magical atmosphere around yourself
.MGX products are truly unusual, both aesthetically and technologically. The shapes and geometry of the design of most of them cannot be reproduced by other technologies and is exclusive to 3D printing. With each product .MGX create not just an interior detail, but also a magical atmosphere that allows you to transfer to another world created by creative designers.
Technology
The name “.MGX” is derived from the Magics software file extension. This program allows professional designers to prepare their projects directly for 3D printing.
The process of preparing a file for 3D printing consists of the following steps. First of all, when the designer has finished working on a 3D file, the design is exported to the * .STL format, after which this file can be prepared for 3D printing using Magics. When all the preparatory work is completed, the file is saved in the Magics extension and sent to the 3D printer.
There are several types of 3D printing that can be used depending on the specific design and the desired result. In .MGX products, stereolithography or selective laser sintering is commonly used. In the first case, the 3D printer is filled with liquid polymer, after which the laser layer by layer, coming into contact with the liquid polymer, forms the required design. After work, the unused polymer is simply merged. In the second case, the liquid polymer is replaced with a powder. The described technologies allow the creation of such products, the construction of which would be impossible using traditional methods. My colleagues from .MGX shared with me a video that describes the whole process of creating .MGX products:
.MGX website
On April 9, .MGX launched an updated website where you can see all the products that are in the 2010 collection, and get to know the designers who designed them.
During the existence of the MGX department, its designers have been awarded prestigious world awards . MGX products are regularly exhibited in popular museums and magazines.
The .MGX collection is an exceptionally vivid example of how 3D printing can be used not only in industrial products but also as art, creating an atmosphere and inspiring imagination.
