The blocking of ClamAV 0.94 caused a surge in spam and stop mail servers

The reasons for a slight increase in the number of spam and mail server interruptions in recent days have become known. The problems were caused by the actions of the developers of the free email antivirus ClamAV, which blocked the version 0.94.x of the antivirus. This was done on April 15 with a special update , after the installation of which all ClamAV installations simply stopped working.

ClamAV 0.94.x is an outdated version a year ago, and most have already moved to 0.95 and 0.96, especially since the calls for upgrades have been coming to everyone for the past six months. The blocking of the program was made for the security of the users themselves, because for 0.94, updates with new signatures are no longer being released.

As a result, some mail servers on which ClamAV 0.94.x was installed also stopped working. Several well-known anti-virus services have ceased to function, for example, Roaring Penguin's CANIT . There were other reports of interruptions in the anti-spam infrastructure.

According to the monitoring services, on April 15, the percentage of successful delivery of legitimate letters fell by 3-5%. To date, the situation has returned to normal.
