A wave of launching Visual Studio 2010 swept across Russia, the final event of which was the launch of a studio in Yekaterinburg.

Read about how the event was held under the cut (attention, a lot of pictures).
The launch of Visual Studio 2010 took place at the Yekaterinburg Onegin Hotel. Onegin is an excellent hotel, the organization of the event pleased from the very beginning - a cozy atmosphere and friendly girls at the reception tables.

Meanwhile, familiar people began to appear in the hall (Sergey Zvezdin, Dmitry Andreev, Vitaly Dilmukhametov, Marat Bakirov):

The people slowly arrived, migrated to the lecture hall, where they showed the very Tetris of the users' tweets with the tag # vs2010launch. There were more and more people.

The first was a plenary report, which highlighted all the main topics that will be considered on this day. The guest plenary talk from Microsoft - Brian Harry. He and his colleagues from Microsoft talked about the latest innovations in Visual Studio 2010, new development tools, new approaches to collaboration, and new software tools for testers and the testing department.

They also showed us a video from Sitronics, which successfully implemented Visual Studio Team Foundation Sever and Test Manager. Employees of the company told how new tools help in solving their problems.

After the plenary report, everyone was invited to dinner. I must say, the restaurant in Onegin did not disappoint, everything was at a high level.

After lunch, the reports continued. Unlike St. Petersburg and Moscow, we had only one stream of reports in Yekaterinburg, but it was very interesting. First, Brian Harry read one more report and spoke about working with Team Foundation Server from scratch: acquisition, migration, installation. The new version of TFS in Basic mode is extremely simple and unpretentious. In the second photo, Brian demonstrates a netbook running TFS and installed Visual Studio 2010 for his daily work.

Secondly, Terry Leeper came to visit us! Leeper is the lead architect of Visual C ++. He spoke about the innovations in the MFC classes of Visual Studio 2010 to support the new features of Windows 7. As Terry showed, the implementation of support for new Win7 features in your program will require a minimum of code.

After reports from guests from the United States, their colleagues from Russia made presentations: Dmitry Andreev talked about project management using Visual Studio 2010, Gaidar Magdanurov talked about web development cheerfully, and Marat Bakirov fully and deeply told about Visual Studio 2010 and TFS 2010 solve the problem of interaction between the developer and tester. Unfortunately I have few photos from these reports.

The day was coming to an end, in between reports the people caught Brian Harry and Terry Leeper and took pictures with them, a brad autograph or talked on various topics. And it all ended with eating a huge cake decorated with the Visual Studio 2010 logo. Touching the cake when it was completely unwilling, but the hungry programmers, hitting the cake, ate it instantly :-).

In general, the event was very successful. Of course, it was not without curiosities and linings, but they all caused a smile and understanding of the public.
As always at such events, the most important were not reports, information from which many could have known for quite some time, but communication and interesting people. It is here, at such events, new acquaintances appear, important things are discussed, questions are solved.
Thank you Microsoft for the high-quality and interesting event! Ekaterinburg is always glad to such meetings and guests, come again.
