The story of a flashmob. Or how SMM works

Some time ago, my institute turned 80 years old. And I wanted to make a gift. So the idea was to hold Mayevsky flashmob in a shopping center. In addition, one of the conditions for collecting people for me was the use of SMM exclusively. There was not a single print ad or anything like that anywhere. The event was not advertised.

Initially, everything was planned to be held on April 12 on Cosmonautics Day, a landmark holiday for MAI. But due to the tragic events, it was rescheduled for yesterday (04/15/2010).
So, first Vkontakte group was launched, below is its statistics (bursts of activity - periods of sending me personal messages on the subject of the group). In connection with the distribution of messages, I was confronted with the restriction of contact - no more than 20 messages per day for friends. Therefore, the list of my friends has considerably replenished;) :). In total, the group at the beginning of the flash mob was 290 people.

At the same time, negotiations began with the guidance of the shopping center. We received permission, so I would like to thank the Metropolis administration.
The purpose of the flash mob was to build the emblem of the institute, as well as the number 80 and the letters M-A-I. For this, the construction schemes were made and also laid out in a group (the numbers indicate “key participants”). Then the process of sending to friends and friends of friends was launched. The group has grown.
Twitter was also launched at www.twitter.com/MAI_ru . Information was added in the MAI community in LiveJournal, as well as on forums where there are students and graduates. Everything was slammed on the Vkontakte group. That is, the main appeal was to join it.
As a result: everything worked out. Social media worked just fine. Required to build a number of participants were collected. This is a great tool for such events. Total 45-50 people came. However, a large amount of time is required for the sustained maintenance of the activity of people who have joined the group.
