What if the Oscars were given to the sites?

Many of us use the global network to purchase tickets or search for information about films. Sites, selling tickets and entertaining visitors, help to collect tickets and form public opinion. However, site developers do not receive any recognition. Is this not a bit unfair in the Internet era - not getting a bit of glory for online movie presentations?

image

Most modern movie websites are made in Flash, even if it is not at all justified. When creating websites, standards and requirements for accessing splash pages and accessing content are often not followed. Developers allow themselves the luxury of neglecting general principles and usability standards, since the main task is to draw attention to the film and help unleash it. Suppose, however, that these developers got their Oscars, Bears and Palm Branches. Will this not be a powerful incentive to create bright and convenient sites?

Nomination "Graphics"

In this article, we will present that the Oscars were awarded to movie sites. This, of course, is not a new award from Smashing Magazine, and certainly not an attempt to take over the rights and responsibilities of the Film Academy. This is just a convenient way to observe the latest trends in film and design, it is a demonstration of the best blockbusters of 2009, new and not yet released films.

This is perhaps the most prestigious nomination in our ceremony. The design uses photographs, illustrations and other graphic elements to create a pleasant and memorable visual range.

Nomination "Best Exclusive Content"

Thousands of online resources and databases are available to search for information about past, current and new films, to view trailers and to buy tickets. Thus, exclusive content is a trump card for official movie sites. Without it, sites are practically useless. Nevertheless, many studios continue to pay little attention to such content for free download as trailers, frames, descriptions and posters. Typography has a strong influence on visitors. Everyone loves quality typography, and we could not leave this element outside our categories. Film site developers can not ignore the growing popularity of mobile Internet and social networks. Presentations of many films are held on Twitter, Facebook and other social networks or bookmarking services. On many movie websites there are panels and widgets for social. networks that give users the opportunity to update and distribute information about films on their own sites or pages of social. networks.

Applications for iPhon'a and iPad'a have become a common tool for advertising. Some films have their own community sites where people come together and discuss various topics related to cinema. The deepest and most universal social integration of the media can be shown on the example of the following sites.

Nomination "Best HTML site"

Many movie sites use Flash, although HTML, CSS and some effects on JavaScript allow you to do the same. The four sites listed below violate this tradition and prove that a good movie site design does not have to include Flash elements.

Nominees:

The Cove
image

Music by Prudence
image

Food Corporation
image

When You're Strange (When You're Strange)
image

And the Winner is ...
The Music Prudence website fully deserves this award. The site was created by the New York designer duet “ Bartlett de Boer ”, which explain the idea of this design in the following way: “Together with our clients we decided to make a flash-like site based on WordPress CMS. We combined expressive typography, large background images and elegant dynamic effects on jQuery, showing all the information on translucent blocks. It was one of the most exciting projects we have been working on. ” Without a doubt, the Prudence Music website is also a merit of the brainchild of Matt Mulleneweg - WordPress.

Nomination "Best Flash Site"

Movie sites usually contain a huge amount of media content, so Flash is the most popular platform for creating them. Although many sites suffer from an oversupply of animation and effects or do not justify the choice of platform, some flash movie sites are very attractive, interesting and informative. Below are six movie websites that deserve our imaginary Oscar in the Best Flash Site nomination.

Nominees:

Alice in Wonderland (Alice in Wonderland)
image

How to Train Your Dragon (How to Train Your Dragon)
image

Inglorious Bastards (Inqlourious Basterds)
image

Lovely Bones
image

Surrogates (Surrogates)
image

I would be in heaven (Up in the Air)
image

And the Winner is ...
“ Inglourious Bastards !” Attention to detail on all pages of the site, excellent unobtrusive effects and a large amount of information distinguish this Flash site from others.

Stars on the Red Carpet

Some movie sites did not take our imaginary Oscar, but still deserve to appear here. Most of them, although not all, are made in a minimalist style, which contains only basic information and a minimum of effects. They are fairly easy to navigate and their appearance is quite pleasant. Despite the lack of nominations, they can make a lot of noise in Hollywood.

City Island (City Island)
The perfect combination of photos and sketches makes this site special.
image

Festive Lunch Hot Summer (Mid-August Lunch)
This site is more like an interactive poster. The page contains almost no information about the film. However, we could not miss such an interesting site.
image

Unbowed (Invictus)
Like the films of maestro Clint Eastwood, the “Unconquered” site tries to show modernity through the prism of eternal values. How else can you explain the use of Flash on this elegant and modern website, when everything could be done in plain HTML + jQuery?
image

The Hurt Locker
Grunge fonts, sand colors and good photos make this site a worthy movie counterpart.
image

Don't Take Alive (Green Zone)
Some really interesting stylizations in the navigation menu.
image

Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Funny cartoons and texture of notebook sheets reveal the theme of the movie.
image

Square (The Square)
The content here is contained in a stylized grid, without prejudice to readability and perception. Dark colors and bold, frayed textures create a believable noir style.
image

Kick-Ass
A lot of games smoothly flow into the content, which resulted in a “fake” website!
image

Shutter Island
The site of this amazing movie is the “black pearl” of our collection. The main emphasis is placed on the dark landscape of the island, complete with fine details.
image

Brooklyn Police (Brooklyn's Finest)
This is one of several sites with a good splash page. Moreover, the Brooklyn Police website contains great photos and incredible Flash effects.
image

The Road
The site of this impressive film, based on the novel Pulitzer Prize laureate Cormac McCarthy, as modest as possible. Minimalist design consists mainly of film frames. Quotes from the novel that pop up when the page is loaded (this detail can also be seen on the Inglorious Bastards website) contribute to the content of the pages.
image

Jacuzzi Time Machine (Hot Tub Time Machine)
The faces of the heroes that pop up when you hover over the menu items will make you smile. The site "Time Machine in Jacuzzi" certainly will not leave you indifferent.
image

Moon 2112 (Moon)
This site is distinguished by its atmosphere, thanks to the pseudo-3D background images created using translucent frames that mimic the space.
image

Lbs. (The official translation of the name of the film yet, you can translate as "Pounds" - approx. Lane.)
This site could be called "camouflage": it looks made in pure HTML, although completely made in Flash. But don't let that bother you. The site is very easy to use and loads pretty quickly. In addition, the panoramic view on the main page looks charming.
image

The Secret in Their Eyes
When something or someone hides secrets, dark concise design will help.
image

Treasure (Precious)
The site of the Oscar-winning film "Treasure" shows the great use of video to engage the visitor in the story.
image

Please Give
Despite the fact that this is just a page “Soon on your screens”, where the trailer is placed, press releases and links to Facebook, beautiful typography allowed this site to be included in the list.
