Robonaut 2 is flying into space

On Habré, they already talked about the prototype of the humanoid robot Robonaut 2 (or just R2), which is being designed as a future replacement for the protein astronauts. It is stronger, tougher, it can work in outer space without a spacesuit (it cannot yet, in fact, but this is in the closest plans of NASA), and thanks to the presence of fingers it can use the same tools as humans.

Today , NASA’s specific plans for launching R2 on the International Space Station have become known : it is planned to send it into space in September as part of the STS-133 mission. The astronauts and the 136-pound robot will be delivered by the Discovery shuttle, by the way, this will be the last 134th flight of the legendary shuttle, after which the shuttles of this type will no longer be used.

The robot will stay at the station for nine days, engineers must thoroughly check how it functions under weightless conditions.
