Solving unexpected quotes with HP Proliant 150 G2
Good day, dear users of Habr!
It so happened that there was a need to add RAM to the good old HP Proliant 150 G2 . By the way, 2 modules of 1 GB of memory were already installed in it. I heard about problems with compatibility of “native” and “non-native” modules, but the problem had to be solved and it was impossible to wait for the delivery.
So, the “native” memory could not be obtained, therefore the choice was made in favor of the Kingston modules. Two 1GB ECC RAM modules were purchased.
The server has been extinguished, the memory has been added, the hope for the Russian “avos” is included. And nothing happened. The server did not start. But as you know, hope dies last. By trial and error, the location of the memory modules in the slots was determined, at which the server was started, but gave an error (02FB = Memory plugin reduced memory size). The configuration is as follows (numbers start at the top, R-native bar, H - new):

2 -
3 - N
4 - N
So, the server is started, but with an error. And he sees only 2 GB of memory from the installed 4.
Knowing that the problem may be in the BIOS - it is useful for an updated version of it. In the machine was installed the most ancient BIOS 1.10, and the last - 1.57: link . Happily downloaded it and began to act.

I’ll say right away that it can only be flashed from a floppy disk, and the drive should be installed exactly as fdd (USB-FDD, USB flash drive, CD - nothing worked).
What was my surprise when there were problems with the firmware: at the initial preparatory stage, the utility was tightly hanging.
The decision was born long and painfully. However, it was found. BIOS version 1.51 was downloaded. And after it - version 1.57 was installed without problems.
After BIOS rewriting, the memory problem remained: (Again I started to shuffle the slats. And, O MIRACLE! It started up! Configuration of modules:

3 - P
4 - N
