Damn good news guys. The Russian startup Ecwid (in which I have the honor to work)
got into the finals of the The Next Web Startup Rally 2010 contest (
about the same on TechCrunchʻe )
We passed a very rigorous multistage selection of 245 participants and at the end of April we will present our project in Amsterdam, at the The Next Web conference.
This is very cool and this is why.
Unfortunately abroad, many people got the impression that all the new services that are appearing in Russia are clones and imitations of successful western products. Here, for example, read the post on TechCrunch and its comments:
techcrunch.com/2010/04/04/cut-paste-innovation-groupon-gets-cloned-in-russia')
What does an ordinary American think? “Oh, the service from Russia is like a clone, nothing innovative or unique, otherwise they cannot.” For example:
Think of Russia - what have they really done in terms of innovation? Not much.
What are they doing? And, quite frankly, are they?
It is sad. Especially because we know that it is not.
That is why we are so glad that we can show and prove to the world that new projects are being created in Russia that are not only innovative and have no analogues in the world, but can also be world leaders in their niche. That we ourselves have done a cool thing, which is a head better than other similar things in the world. To break this view of the "stupid copy-paste", we, damn it, first flew into space!
If someone is interested in the process of passing to the final, what should be done and how, and what should not be done - ask in the comments. I will be glad to answer and then maybe based on your questions I will make a separate post with detailed explanations and descriptions.
