Google will provide financial resources for the development of Theora codec optimized for ARM processors. Such a decision is reported in one of Google’s corporate blogs.
The company emphasizes the importance of developing the open codec, which should become a universal and unified standard, at least for safety net. Reportedly, a single universal format is needed at least so that everyone can switch to it if necessary, if "all other formats do not justify themselves."
Since a single format is needed for security, "it does not have to be the most complex or the most advertised," Google writes, "it should just be accessible, and everywhere." Such a codec could be Ogg Theora , based on VP3 , which became public domain a few years ago.
