Facebook opens office in Russia

The international social network Facebook is preparing to open an office in Moscow.

At the moment, negotiations have begun with local mobile operators in the framework of a project to expand activities in Russia. Such an attempt has already been made by another social network - My Space, but it was not successful and the office was closed in 2009.

Today, Facebook is the largest social network in the world with more than 400 million users. Already, the company has about 100 partners among mobile operators around the world.

“In the course of negotiations with Facebook managers, we discussed possible options for cooperation in Russia,” said a representative of one of the Big Three operators.
"In particular, we discussed the ability of users to pay for Facebook services via SMS, given the local prices and the possible reduction of tariffs."

This step is aimed at increasing the share of Facebook in the Russian Internet market, where the largest part is taken by the social network VKontakte, which numbers more than 18 million people.
