Jump in! Developer camp. Microsoft and the Open Source Community - a course for convergence

Historically, the two worlds, Open Source and Microsoft, were in a certain confrontation and rarely intersected, but recently the situation began to change. And an example of this is the Jump in! Developer camp.


The event takes place these days, April 6-9, 2010 in Zurich, Switzerland. Although the organizer was Microsoft, it was not fans of this company who were invited to it, but 25 developers from the open source camp from all over the world, including from Russia.

The main goal of Jump in! It is not a “appeal to faith”, but a joint search for possible ways of technological development by using the strengths of both approaches, through intensive research and testing of scenarios of joint work of various components of the Microsoft technology stack (including IIS, Windows Azure, Silverlight, SQL Server, etc.). e.) and open source applications using PHP, Ruby, MySQL technologies.

Microsoft invited key developers from many corporate teams working on major server platforms to collaborate with workshop participants.

Quite a lot of time is spent testing applications in a hosting environment. For this purpose, Hyper-V virtual machines are used, presented by our company - Parking.ru . This is due to the fact that Parking.ru has long been involved in testing and optimizing the speed of PHP applications running under Windows and we have achieved some success in this.
