Martin from the Ubuntu One development team
talked about the team’s plans.
He said that in the near future they are going to make available the synchronization of contacts of mobile phones with the cloud service Ubuntu One. For this, a partner was found: the company
Funambol , which has considerable experience in developing mobile device synchronization services, and in addition, "shares the views of Canonical in free software."
Martin notes that Funambol has good potential, and their software allows you to synchronize almost all main platforms that store contacts: modules (plug-ins): Thunderbird, Outlook, Mac OS X Mail, etc.
There is, of course, a hefty fly in the ointment. The implementation of the Funambol server entails additional costs, and therefore the synchronization service of phone contacts will be available only to paid subscribers of Ubuntu One. All others can taste the 30-day trial version of the service. The countdown of these 30 days will begin on the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS release day (April 29).

Under this expansion, the functionality of the Canonical service increases its server capacity. Of course, everything should be ready for the release of Lucid Lynx.
Currently, the service is being prepared for open testing. Since he was tested only on a limited number of phone models, Martin recommends that testers first make a backup of their contacts.
