Advertising platform = provider?

Introduction

For a long time I am a happy client of one local provider. And not only because until recently he was essentially a de facto monopolist in my city. A couple of years ago he was absorbed in the rather popular Domolink brand. Anxiety, in general, did not cause it, because tariffs were falling, and speeds were growing. But in the beginning of March of this year, something strange happened.

Banners?

One user at a local forum complained that while surfing, an advertisement for the DomolinkTV internal service began to emerge. According to him, it looked like a virus attack: when clicking on an absolutely clean link instead of the requested site, I got out a flash banner with ads on
the whole window, which only a few seconds later was transferred to the requested site itself.

Many people were skeptical about the message, saying check for a virus (although why should virus writers advertise the services of the provider?). But then the advertising began to crawl from everyone, even on obviously clean resources like google services.

The first popular thought was hacking the DNS provider. However, alternative DNS users like OpenDNS also received ads. Most of all, it looked like the HTTP traffic of the user is wrapped around a kind of transparent proxy, whence it redirects to the banner page, and the requested URL is passed as a parameter.

Owners of well-tuned firewalls and banner cutters are doubly unlucky. After all, instead of the banner and the requested site, they received just a white page.

A little later, the character softened somewhat: now the banner was much smaller and just hung on the corner of the page.

Attempts to storm the issues of those. the support was not crowned with success: there was still no response from the officials. Topics with questions on the official Domolink forums were also left unanswered or were immediately closed.

The people were indignant, some expressed that this was only a run-in of new technologies, and the offensive itself was still ahead. And it seems they were right when advertising of third-party organizations began to appear.

The final?

Currently, advertising bombardment has stopped. But who knows forever? It seems that the communication channel itself may soon become an advertising platform. What do you think about this, habrachelovek?
