It so happened that the amateur (non-commercial) global computer network Fidonet still does not have a normal icon.
Such is the imbalance.
On the one hand, programmers have written for Fidonet a lot of open source software (mailers, echo processors, feedmail editors, gateways, WebBBS, and so on), and still this movement continues unabated.
For example, a couple of weeks ago, Leonid Kaganov announced his intention to compose a WebBBS of his own that would work on top of the PhFiTo PHP echo processor . And two months earlier, Andrei Bykanov composed Fidonet MySQL Reader (WebBBS with MySQL database, equipped with Perl for the interface to the tosser and PHP for the user interface).
On the other hand, on this stage, so far no digital artist has drawn such an icon of Fidonet, which would perfectly fit her image, and be free to distribute, and would gain popularity.
')
There is, however, the hope that Habrahabr has seen dozens of times truly master kits, consisting of dozens of icons of various sizes, distributed free and free of charge. Therefore, it is quite possible that
someone else will find leisure to draw a badge for Fidonet too; In this case, I ask for a habrakat.
The bottom line is this.
There is such an old-time non-profit project that has existed for more than two decades - the global non-profit computer network
Fidonet . Now most of its nodes are located in Russia.
The talisman symbol (
mascot ) of Fidonet is a lop-eared dog sitting with a floppy disk, which it gently holds in its teeth.
(“Fido” is a common dog's nickname in the States.) It turned out that by the time Fidonet invented most of the interfaces were textual, so the symbol was originally a textual (pseudo-graphic) one. Approximately this is how it looks
in the weekly Fidonews , for example:
__
/ \
/ | oo \
(_ | / _)
_` @ / _ \ _
| | \\\
| (*) | \))
______ | __U__ | / \ //
/ FIDO \ _ // || _ \ /
(________) (_ / (_ | (____ /
Thomas Jennings, the creator of the network, drew her logo as follows:
The
fidonet.org.ua website uses such a dog, which creates a humorous impression of narcotic uproarness:
The fidonet.org website uses a dog that nudges its foot:
And this is what the Windows-version icon of the
GoldED + program looks like:
The last two attempts, however, seem excessively gone from the original idea, from the image of a white-haired dog and its calm posture.
I am sure that it is possible to create a set of icons closer to the idea of the original image of Fidonet.
As a rule, icons appear in Habrahabr in three sizes:
→ 16 × 16 pixels (for window titles, for styling menu items or hyperlinks);
→ 32 × 32 and 48 × 48 pixels (for desktops, depending on the position of the size setting of the operating system icons).
But if someone from the master icons seems to be insufficient to make only three sizes, then his services also include sizes 24 × 24 (for some toolbars), 80 × 80 (for avatars on the forums), 100 × 100 and 150 × 150 (for banners, for users in LiveJournal and LiveInternet), and so on.
Naturally, in order to be able to distribute, promote, include in free software, and so on, the author should be allowed to distribute the
icon - either completely free, or under any of the free licenses (for example, one of Creative Commons).
I wish you success.
