Future cameras will not need a flash

Employees of the Korean Institute of Electronic Technology have developed a sensor for digital cameras, allowing you to shoot in dark rooms without using a flash. According to the developers, the sensor is able to capture images, and even carry out video recording, with a light level of just 1 lux. The basis of the innovative technology is a photo detector SMPD (single carrier modulation photo detector), manufactured using highly precise technologies.

But today the SMPD sensor is 2000 times more sensitive than any other photosensors. It is noted that the creation of the chip took 4 years of work and about $ 10.5 million. It is expected that the new technology will find its application in areas that require image capture in low light conditions and there is no possibility of using the backlight.
