Google analyzes the behavior of iPhone users to improve Android

According to analyst firm Piper Jaffray, there is a 70% chance that Apple will launch its own search engine over the next five years. As a basis for the search engine, he suggests that Apple buy one of the existing search startups, for example, Cuil or Taptu .

For Apple, this is the only way out. The fact is that now on the iPhone, Google search is installed by default. Thus, a competing company collects search statistics from iPhone users and can use this information in developing its own Android operating system.

Such a conclusion is contained in the analytical note, which was published on March 30 by an analyst at Piper Jaffray. According to him, search statistics from tens of millions of iPhone users are extremely valuable data, and Apple is obliged to protect them from a competitor. This can be done either by making Bing the default search engine (which is unlikely due to many circumstances), or using its own design.

Curious tentacles of Google have penetrated not only on the iPhone, but also into the very lair of the Apple monoculture - in the App Store. The interest of the search giant to Apple's secret infrastructure was confirmed in November last year, when Google bought AdMob, which is developing embedded advertising for iPhone applications, for $ 750 million (the deal has not yet been legalized by regulators). This purchase gives Google unprecedented access to inside App Store information.

By the way, in order to not lose control of the advertising platform in the future, Apple will have to make not only its search engine, but also a mapping application like Google Maps, the same analyst Piper Jaffray believes. Otherwise, all profits from the sale of advertising on the iPhone will be received by Google.
