As the situation worsened, the problem with data distortion spread to other data centers. We tried to proactively correct the increasing flow of failures over the entire alphabet by applying a temporary solution to protect the letters “a”, “e”, “i”, “o” and “u” from distortion. As a result, this led to the first temporary drop of vowels in Gmail history. (At the moment, we are also finding out whether the problem has touched the letter “y”, and we hope to let you know about it soon.)
In the last hours, we receive numerous reports on this issue in our forums, from colleagues at Google and in messages from you. Some of you have already found ways to correspond without using vowels, such as Aaron, who sent us the following:

80.8% of the alphabet is an indicator that is significantly lower than the 99.9% literal availability stated by us. Immediately, as soon as the cause of the problem was clarified, we began to include vowels back into Gmail, so within a few hours you will be able to see them again in your mail if this has not happened yet.
