New "hedgehogs" on the way. Yes, what!

When I saw these pictures, I had no other emotions. At
CeBIT 2010 , ASUS presented a huge number of new products, ranging from nettops and netbooks, to monitors, e-books and media players. This has already been told -
once and
twice .
But in both posts nothing is said about netbooks, information about which is just beginning to leak into the Internet. And there is nothing left of the pictures seen, how to stir up interest :) So, not far off are three new models -
ASUS EeePC 1015 ,
1016 and
1018 . The names of the new models fit well with the labeling rules of the company, so in essence, this is a second generation of netbooks 1005, 1006 and 1008.
')
But first, a little lyrical digression.
This summer, Intel will present two new models of mobile processors of the Atom series to the general public.
New N455 and N475 can rightly be considered as isotopes of atoms N450 and N470 - all the same elements, but with new properties. For example, the main innovation will be support for DDR3-memory. The working clock frequency (and TDP) will remain at the same level - 1.6 and 1.83 GHz (5.5 and 6.5 W), respectively. 45-nanometer process technology and Hyper-Threading are not going anywhere, but not a word about the integrated chip.
Will this give a tangible increase in performance? It cannot be ruled out, but something tells me that the numbers will be insignificant :) As for the devices in which they will be used, netbooks will be the first - ASUS has supposedly models EeePC 1015, 1016 and 1018.
The release date of the new chips is still not known for certain, presumably this will happen in June, at Computex 2010. I think the official text from Intel will appear a little earlier.
EeePC 1015P

The first thing that catches your eye is a matte case! Maybe he will be a little brand, but certainly not the way the previous varnished "pianos".

Model 1005 (1005P / 1005PE) can be considered a pioneer for the 1015P and 1015PE, although overall the new products have become very similar to the successful UL-series - looking at the body and shape of the touchpad, I would think that this is a UL10 laptop.

The screen also became opaque, but there remained “children's sores” in the form of a resolution of 1024x600 (still 10.1 '' diagonal). The hard drive is likely to remain the same - 160GB (+ 500GB on the EeeStorage online storage), and the only memory bar will be 1 or 2GB.
As for the rest, the main entrails, as I understand it, there will be several options. The letter
P in the title indicates the presence of new Intel Atom processors in the Pine Trail series, at first they will be
Intel Atom N450 (1.66 GHz) or
N470 (1.83 GHz). Although there are persistent rumors that they are being replaced by new “isotopes” in the person of
N455 /
N475 (with DDR3 support), official information about which is not yet available. The role of the video card will play
Intel GMA X3150 .

On the battery with 6 elements, the manufacturer promises up to 14 hours of battery life (this, apparently, for the
1015PE version), but the harsh realities show that the numbers are always understated - I think we should expect 11-12 hours.
EeePC 1016P
This model has attracted much more of my attention :) if only because the body (it seems) is made of aluminum.

Obviously, the engineers have departed from the well-proven concept of SeaShell - a noticeable return to rectangular and angular forms (called the
Diary Series ). But what are these forms ... again, completely dull!

And if in models 1015 gloss a little bit still remains (frame around the screen), then model 1016 became really matte - starting from the lid and touchpad, ending with the screen and the panel around the buttons.

The screen with LED-backlit, all other parameters (diagonal and resolution) remained the same. The filling is similar, except that the disk can grow from 160 to 320GB.

The filling is also promised a new one, and there will be three types of batteries: 2300 mAh (3 cells) and 4400/5600 mAh (6 cells), which in theory will allow autonomous work for 5/11/14 hours.

EeePC 1018P Prime

The most, perhaps, delicious netbook :) The smooth features in the design of the case are back, but, again, dull. A stylish textured lid and a metal panel around the touchpad - all of this fit into a body just 18mm thick.

It is impossible not to notice the increased size of the touchpad and fingerprint scanner in the right side of the case (and this is a useful feature, by the way).

Nice bonuses include USB 3.0 ports and the latest Bluetooth 3.0 version. Perhaps they will also be in the two "junior" updates - it is not yet clear. As an operating system, Windows 7 Starter is everywhere.

Finally, there is hope that soon I will review the netbook - completely matte, productive and long-playing.

USB 3.0 era
She is inexorably approaching. As I wrote on
Twitter , the new version of the interface should be expected in all new motherboards, in the
N series laptops (perhaps in some more) and in the
EeeBox EB1510U and
EB1012U nettops .
As for the EeeBox class devices, the EB1012U and EB1501U models are no different from their predecessors EB1012 and EB1501, except perhaps for two USB 3.0 ports. By the way, I already did a review of the EB1012 nettop.
You can find out about other ASUS updates presented at CeBIT 2010 in an
article on the
TrendClub website. Some photos for the article were taken from
Engadget - someday I will myself go to all these exhibitions and post all the information first-hand.
And here, by the way, a
post about labeling netbooks / laptops.
See you soon!
