USA: every 10th child gamer is obsessed with video games
Approximately 10% of US residents from 8 to 18 years old playing video games are addicted to this type of entertainment, Harris Interactive found out in a survey of 1,100 young Americans and their families. The researchers found that drunken gamers are worse at school and more likely to be distracted, have problems with communication in the family, writes the director of the Iowa State University Media Research Lab Douglas Gentile. Most drunken gamers use game consoles and spend an average of 24.5 hours a week following them.
Games are quite popular among the American youth: a quarter of the respondents admitted to their addiction to video games, 44% said they know those who are addicted among their friends, and 80% play at least once a month.
