
IBM, Canonical and Simmtronics announced the preparation of Linux netbooks with an Intel Atom processor for developing countries - Simmbook.
IBM Client for Smart Work, a distribution based on Ubuntu Netbook Remix with Lotus Symphony, will be pre-installed on the devices. This distribution is positioned as a client solution for working within the cloud. The first Simmbook models will be available for Africa, and their cost will be 190 USD.
The technical characteristics of Simmbook are: 10.1-inch display (resolution - 1024 by 600); Intel Atom N270 processor with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz; Mobile Intel 82945GSE chipset and ICH7M controller; 1 GB RAM (DDR2); 160 GB hard drive (SATA); SD card reader; Ethernet port, three USB ports, VGA port and audio jack, PCI-Express interface with Wi-Fi support (802.11 b / g); 1.3 megapixel webcam.

According to IBM, in the future netbooks will be distributed to other countries: Vietnam, India, Thailand.
