Hacker received 20 years in prison for breaking 130 million bank cards

A hacker named Albert Gonzalez was convicted in the United States of 20 years in prison for crimes related to burglary of payment cards. The court immediately considered three cases related to the activities of Gonzaleza in various states of the United States - Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York. The sentence already passed applies only to his crimes in Massachusetts, and the hearing of other crimes will take place today. Gonzalez hacked more than 130 million bank cards, the damage caused by his actions is estimated at 200 million dollars.

There were also reports that the hacker had two accomplices from Russia, although nothing was known about this. This crime is rightfully considered to be one of the largest (if not the largest) and “expensive” fraud in the history of the United States related to hacking into computer systems. The prosecution initially insisted on 25 years of imprisonment for Gonzalez, but the judge decided to limit himself to 20 years. Perhaps the hacker's confession was taken into account.

Gonzales, a computer specialist, told the court: “I stand humiliated in front of you during these 22 months of imprisonment. I'm guilty".

At liberty, the young man remained parents, emigrants from Cuba.

PS If he got 200 million cards from 130 million (or less, because this is damage to banks, not his profit), then it turns out he took about $ 1.5 from each card. Is it worth giving 20 years for this?
