For more than two decades, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates have argued on topics that are key to the technology industry.

Topics were as follows: is it advisable for companies to enter into a partnership, or is it better to do everything by itself; which has a higher priority - software or hardware; what matters more - how much easier is it to use the product or what can be done using this product as soon as you figure out how?

This duel for great ideas, sometimes friendly, sometimes not, always conducted from afar. Until recently.

Although Gates made a famous call to Jobs in 1997, and the joint appearance on the market in 1983 during an Apple promotion, they never spoke in public. Therefore, when next Wednesday they sit down in a 75-minute interview in front of technical managers, their long history and competing philosophies can turn into an interesting, if not historical, discussion.

“They were always different, like day and night,” said Rob Enderle, managing analyst at the consulting company Enderle Group.

The dialogue will take place at the 5th annual D-All Things Digital conference in Carlsbad, California, because Jobs and Gates are headed in completely different directions, and the companies that they founded are waiting for big changes.
