Sony introduced the elastic full color OLED

On May 24, Sony unveiled a product that it calls - the world's first elastic full-color organic electro-luminescent display (OLED), built on organic thin-film transistor (TFT) technology.

OLED typically uses a glass substrate, but Sony researchers have developed a new technology to create organic TFTs on a plastic substrate that will allow them to create thin, lightweight, and elastic full-color displays. The 2.5 inch prototype supports 16.8 million colors at a resolution of 120x169 pixels (80 pixels per inch, 0.318 mm grain size). Also, this display has a thickness of 0.3 mm and weighs only 1.5 grams.

According to Sony, which plans to launch a new line of mini TVs this year and plans to produce flat-panel OLEDs of the new generation, this new technology will make it possible to create thinner and lighter electronics.

The company plans to present the results of its research at SID 2007 - an international symposium that is already planned for the United States.
