Mimo 720S usb display overview

MIMO Monitors recently introduced a new monitor from the “mini USB monitors” series. The model is called the MIMO 720-S “Touchscreen Slider”. Nice design, light weight, touchscreen function and power supply only from the USB port is a good set of parameters that you should pay attention to. The Mimo mini monitor helps expand the desktop experience of compact laptops, while its small size and weight allow it to fit into a laptop bag without any problems.

First of all, pay attention to the design of the device. First, Mimo has an interesting and convenient feature to be folded into the form of a folder, while taking up minimal space. Secondly, the monitor can display a picture, both in horizontal and vertical position. Thirdly, the weight of the device is about 400 g, which allows you to easily throw it into a laptop bag and forget that it is there.

The Mimo display is rotated 90 degrees, while switching the picture must be done using the installed driver, there is no automatic change of orientation.

The case of the USB monitor is made of high-quality matte plastic. There are three mechanical buttons on the case: power, increase brightness, reduce brightness.

The brightness is adjustable over a wide range and reaches 300 cd / m2. On the back is a USB-connector, hidden under a rubber cap with the company logo. The supplied USB cable has two connectors for connecting to a computer, as in some external HDDs. In practice, using one is enough. The length of the USB cable is 140 cm, which is quite enough to connect to a laptop or home PC.

Software
A few words about the software and drivers. When you connect the Mimo 720S, you need to install two drivers: for the monitor and for the touchscreen function. No problems with installation. After installation, three icons will appear in the tray: DisplayLink (monitors turn the pictures and the ability to expand or duplicate the main monitor helps) and two icons for setting and operating the touchscreen function (one for setting and calibration, the second for switching between mouse buttons when pressed with a finger).

After digging in more detail in the settings, you can configure many additional touchscreen functions, up to control the mouse cursor on the main monitor! In the latter case, I was not able to configure the same level of convenience as when using the touchpad on a laptop. Often there is a selection of the screen area, instead of just moving the mouse. Perhaps more accurate calibration is required.

For MAC users, you will have to download an additional paid driver worth $ 30 to use the touchscreen feature.

Convenience and image quality
The image quality is good, but it cannot boast something outstanding. At the same time I really liked the brightness setting range. With direct sunlight on the monitor, high brightness (8 levels) allows you to comfortably use the monitor. The text is clear and readable. Glare is not observed, in part because the screen is not glossy. I think this is a plus. If necessary, it is possible to connect several monitors to one computer, while the hardware requirements of the computer increase from 1.2GHz and 512MB RAM for one display, to 1.6GHz dual-core and 1GB RAM - for 6. USB-monitor can boast good viewing angles , there is no obvious color inversion at extreme angles.

findings
The monitor is perfect as an additional expansion of the laptop screen. It can accommodate the client icq, skype, palettes and tools Photoshop, twitter-clients and other utilities. You can use both Outlook and browsers, but with less convenience, since most pages on the Internet are designed for resolutions over 800 pixels.

Sophisticated design, low weight and power from just one USB cable is a good mix of qualities for use with a laptop with a small screen size. If desired, the Mimo 720S can be used as a digital frame.
