Mineral collector
Ph.D. Robert Lavinsky donated to Wikimedia Commons his full database of images
on mindat.org (about 29,000) and all the images from his own page
irocks.com . He also offered about 20 thousand additional photos from his archive for use when necessary. Wikimedia Commons requires assistance in translating, downloading, etc.
Prior to that, in 2009, the
Amsterdam Museum Tropenmuseum issued under
license CC-BY-SA 35 thousand photographs from the former Dutch colonies - Suriname and Indonesia. Everyone knows about earlier donations of the
German Federal Archive (Bundesarchiv) (more than 80 thousand and
wrote about it on Habré ) and
Deutsche Fotothek (250 thousand).
There
are about 6.3 million photos, video and audio files available on Wikipedia,
copying, editing and commercial use on Wikipedia.
I hope everyone remembers that when using these pictures you need to specify the author (s) of the particular picture and its license, and not write nonsense like “Wikipedia photo” or “author: Wikipedia” (you can just as well write “author of the photo: found in Yandex ").
