Once, an offline friend asked if it’s realistic to send notifications from the forum to icq. Thinking, I decided to find the class of sending messages php script. Searching, I found several times, but stopped at the class of mlCQ library , not because of the technical capabilities, it was just an example of use, and also in Russian. Then he carried out "data collection" from the forum and finally, sending ... It turned out more or less efficient. True, in order not to write a subscription several times, I combined it with a subscription of notifications to e-mail. Here's how it all worked:

1. During posting a message, (simultaneously with sending letters to
email) is stored in the database id and the user who
message is being sent
2. In some period of time the bot starts (I have 10
minutes), which selects messages from the created database, and from
User base - icq number.
3. Then the bot sends the text (or part of it) to the icq number selected from the user database, the line with the value is erased, so as not to send the topic twice ...

Then, having finished with the technical part, I began to think about practical benefits ... Some said that it was completely useless, others very much liked it. And now I want to ask the opinions of habropublik ... Do you think this approach is useful to notifications about new messages?
