Faster, higher, stronger - A-Data fast memory review

A-DATA is one of the leading manufacturers of RAM. Also in the range there is: flash memory, memory cards, SSD drives, external drives and a separate item are high-performance solutions. The company A-Data introduced a new set of memory DDR3 2200 (8-8-8-24) 1.65V - this is the fastest memory in their product line. About her today and will be discussed.

The XPG + series belongs to the class of high-performance solutions. There is even a specially created microsite dedicated to models of this class.

Let's try in business model: AX3U2200PB2G8-DP2
Specifications:
Number of channels: 2
Module Type: 240Pin Unbuffered DIMM Non-ECC
Volume: 4GB Dual Channel Kit (2GBx2)
Operating frequency: 2200MHz
Timings: 8-8-8-24
Operating voltage: 1.55V ~ 1.65V
')
The following technologies are used to improve cooling and stability in the slats: Thermal Conductive Technology (TCT), which provides direct heat removal from critical areas of the DRAM modules, as well as the technology of using a double copper layer of the board itself (2 oz).

Such memory is oriented for use as part of high-performance gaming and workstations.
The considered model is based on the most expensive and promising chips Elpida Hyper. As you know, they can work with high delays and high timings, and with low frequency and aggressive low timings. This gives more flexibility in tuning the memory subsystem for maximum performance.

As mentioned earlier in the specification, the model under test is designed for systems with a dual-channel memory controller. First of all, it is focused on platforms with a LGA 1156 processor socket. I'd add, to be more precise, for completeness of sensations from the delights of such slats, a Core i7 860/870 processor is needed, since the 800 series has a fairly strong internal memory controller and x12 memory multiplier relative to the system bus.

According to the official specification from Intel, consisting of a Core i7 860/870 processor, the most compatible memory model adopted by the JEDEC Standardization Committee operates at a frequency of 1333 MHz with timings 9-9-9-24. In our case, we have in our hands the bars capable of operating at a frequency of 2200 MHz with timings of 8-8-8-22, which differs quite a lot from the standard, and promises to give a rather tangible increase in performance.

First of all, let's compare the performance difference in two modes:

1333 MHz 9-9-9-24 and 2200 MHz 8-8-8-24.

At the same time, we will not touch the processor frequency.
By the way, the A-DATA 2200 XPG plus series in the SPD contains XMP settings for 2200 MHz. This means that if you do not want to manually set the frequency and timings, simply select the value "Profile1" in the BIOS item Extreme Memory Profile (XMP). This item is located in MB Intelligent Tweaker (MIT) >>> Advanced Frequency Settings (if GIGABYTE motherboard) and Ai Tweaker or Extreme Tweaker (if ASUS motherboard)

Test bench:
- Intel Core i7 860
- GIGABYTE P55A - UD6
- 2 * 2048Mb A-DATA 2200 XPG plus series
- GIGABYTE GeForce GTX280
- WD Raptor 74Gb 740ADFD
- be quite 1000W Dark Power Pro
- Win 7 Professional

Tests:
EVEREST Ultimate Edition 5.30 - test for read / write and access speed
WinRAR 3.93 - backup speed test
Cinebench 11.5 - 3D Rendering
TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress - video encoding.

Play:
Crysis warhead
Farcry 2

To a lesser extent, the test rested on the video subsystem - the settings of the graphic visualization are set to at least 800x600 resolution.

As you can see, the gain is more than noticeable in reading and writing tests, as well as latency. Well, let's see how it will be reflected in real applications.

WinRAR 3.93

The archiving speed is always very dependent on the performance of the memory subsystem, as the graph below shows.

TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress is a program for encoding video / audio from one format to another. Here I recoded a standard DVDRip of 1.37GB in DiVX size of 438MB.

Cinebench 11.5 - the time spent on the process of rendering an image, measured in minutes.

In the gaming tests Crysis Warhead and FarCry 2, it can be seen that with a minimum load on the video card, there is a difference in rendered frames. Conclusion - with a more productive HD5870 / 5970 video card, the difference will only grow.

A few words about the overclocking potential of the slats:

In the period from February 10 to March 10, the first in Russia online tournament GIGABYTE overclocking on the platform of Intel P55 Express "On the wave of performance" p55oc.gigabyte.ru
One of the tests was for archiving in the WinRAR program, where your humble servant won, thanks to the excellent overclocking potential of the above-described slats. At the same time, the memory was mastered by almost 2500 MHz with 8-8-8-22 timings at 1.76v voltage. The result - 7688KB / s , as the OS was XP SP3.

Conclusion.

Memory is really top of the class with all that it implies. It is equally suitable for any user and it doesn’t matter what to do with it (overclocker, video editor, designer or hardcore gamer). It scales well against voltage and timings. The best choice for Intel LGA1156 platform. From the negative sides, it is worth noting that 2 strips will not be possible to install into the memory slots closest to each other due to an oversized cooling system.
