Linden Lab , the parent company of Second Life, announced today the acquisition of
Windward Mark Interactive graphics technology.
From this transaction, the terms of which are not disclosed, Linden Lab
will receive two products: WindLight (weather conditions rendering technology) and Nimble (realistic cloud modeling program). In addition, Linden Lab now has associated intellectual property rights.
Upon completion of the transaction, Linden Lab will release the purchased technologies under the open source code, after which it will add these technologies to its SL client to give realism to the virtual world. First, a new client will be seen by Windows users, and a bit later - by Mac OS X users.
The five founders of Windward Mark Interactive will soon join the Linden Lab team in Boston.

As for the online game Alliance, owned by Windward Mark Interactive, it was not part of the transaction and will continue to develop independently.
