After DIY topics (
1 ,
2 ) I think it will be interesting to see how industrial-made displays based on rotation are arranged.
The German company Kinoton (the
one that produces equipment for cinemas) produces transparent cylindrical displays Litefast 360 °.
Display Specifications:
- Resolution: 3 × (800 × 600)
- Number of colors: 16.7 million
- Screen diagonal: 2,337 mm (~ 92 ", ~ 2.33 m)
- Pixel size: 1.0 mm 2
- Input Signal: DVI, 800 × 600, 60 Hz
- Nominal rotation speed: 800 rpm
Further pictures of the main modules and the principle of operation
Components

The display consists of two parts: the fixed lower and rotating upper.

Lower part
At the bottom of the set:
- Rotation drive (3)
- Spin Control Board (5)
- Current collector (4)
- Optical image transmitter
- Vibration sensor (2)
The most interesting moments

Speed sensor. The pin is attached to the rotating part, the photocell on the fixed part fixes the turn of the disk.
At the time of passage of the pin, the upper part receives a command to output the image.
')

Power to the upper unit is supplied through a current collector (large cylinder in the photo). The image is transmitted through an optical transmitter (small cylinder below the current collector).
Since the upper module weighs about 30 kilograms and rotates at a speed of 800
rpm , unbalance or external influence can ruin the entire structure. To prevent this, there is a vibration sensor. As soon as the vibration exceeds the set value, the motor is turned off.
Top part

The main part of the upper module is 4 strips of 3 rows of LEDs.
The dome made of plexiglass performs two tasks: it protects the curious hands and noses and restricts the flow of air. Probably he didn’t accurately describe the air flow: in the dome the air rotates in a circle and does not interfere with the rotation, without it the module cannot dial more than 200-300
rpm .
Noise
There is noise. In a quiet little room noticeable. If it is a party or a noisy presentation, it is not noticeable.
Issue price
Since the Germans grind the upper disk manually, the corresponding issue price is about 35,000 Euros for a large model and 4,000 Euros for a small one.
Yes, I did not write anything about the desktop model. But the principle of work there is about the same.
