New Samsung NX10 and Olympus E-PL1 mirrorless: test shots and video

Here on Habré we have repeatedly raised the topic of "mirrorless", and in the light of the latest announcements, Panasonic, Olympus and Samsung decided to return to it again - the market starts to grow sharply this year!

By the way, Olympus estimates the “mirrorless” market at 25 million units, while Samsung predicts its development by 2012 to 10 million units. I was at the presentations of the Samsung NX10 and Olympus, and I want to share my first impressions. First of all, I want to show two videos in which I tried to summarize the technical information about the cameras and dilute the people who had already happened to take pictures of new devices with the synchromesh.

Samsung NX10:

Unfortunately, Olympus E-PL1 was not allowed to be taken out of the demonstration zone, but they promise to send it to the test very soon. And with the Samsung NX10 I go for the second day. Cameras of one class, one price category, therefore it is difficult to refrain from comparison. And here are some thoughts I have about this:

1. NX10 is much larger in size than the E-PL1, and the entry-level SLRs do not overtake much in terms of dimensions. It is frustrating.

2. At the same time, holding the Samsung camera in hands is much nicer and more convenient, since there is a large ledge on the right of the case. He grabbed for it - and that’s it; he was sitting in his hand like a glove. With Olympus it is more difficult - there is a very small protrusion, with one hand to hold it a bit dumbly - will it slip out suddenly?

3. If to give an external assessment, then E-PL1, in my opinion, is more attractive - it looks somehow more noble. And the NX10, as correctly noted in the goncharow video, is really pop, but in a good way :)

4. In terms of usability, the NX10 wins - nice, beautifully designed menus with settings, large icons that delight the eye. On the top panel there is a wheel for changing parameters. In the E-PL1 wheel there is no such thing - everything is done only with the help of buttons, and this is a loss in speed. In general, all management there, as it seemed to me, is a little more complicated.

5. Under the NX10 system, the Koreans released 4 lenses: 18-55 (with and without stabilizer), a 30mm pancake and a 50-200 telephoto. Cheap (from 9000 to 9500 rubles), but plastic is fantastic. For the Pen series, there are only two lenses so far: a standard 14-42 zoom and a 17 mm pancake. Closer to the summer will appear televik 14-150 and shirik 9-18. Optics is serious, high-quality, which also affects prices: 14-42, for example, costs 12,500 rubles.

6. I don’t try to judge the quality so far, I have talked more or less tightly with only one camera - the NX10. But it shows itself worse than E-PL1. For example, on ISO above 400, a complete disgrace begins :) At Olympus this is somehow simpler.

Finally, two archives with photos taken on the Olympus E-PL1 and Samsung NX10 .

If the traffic does not allow or just too lazy to download, then here is a modest alternative. In the archives of photos much more :)

By the way, in today's podcast, we, along with goncharow and turubar, are just discussing mirrorless trends, so if you are interested, you can listen, the podcast is also available on the Habr.

If anyone has questions, you can ask them right here or on my twitter . By the way, I completely forgot about the price of fotiki. Olympus E-PL1 in Russia will sell for 25,000 rubles, and for the Samsung NX10 will be asked 23,000 rubles. Moreover, these are prices for the "whale" option, just carcasses - cheaper.
