On March 1, a beta version of the new web service for learning English was born - LinguaLeo.ru.

The service allows you to learn English through video, audio and texts created by native speakers. It uses convenient tools for learning new words in context. The service is designed for people who want to quickly develop a listening comprehension of live English and increase vocabulary.

The user quickly expands vocabulary and listening comprehension through mastering interesting multimedia content and memorizing words in context.



After a simple registration, LinguaLeo.ru will offer to indicate the current level of English proficiency. You can specify the intensity mode or the time to reach the target level. The service also recommends the amount of daily activity for learning the language and displays it in the hunger monitor. The total amount of the traversed path can be seen in the progress bar, which is always in sight.

All users get their personal pet. His name is LinguaLev. It requires daily care and nutrition. He himself says what he wants to do: master new content, train words, etc.

On the site you will find a whole collection of video, audio recordings and texts in the original. Clips, videos, presentations, reports, audiobooks - all in English.
All content is easily filtered and sorted by format, level of complexity, volume and topic of interest. Each user can add their content to the Jungle - a collection of English-language content. When you read a text, you can translate unfamiliar words in one click and see the translation of whole phrases, highlighting them in the text. Next to the text, a context dictionary of translated words and phrases is created (the service uses a statistical user dictionary-translator).



New words and phrases fall into the personal dictionary with the context of their use. For lasting memorization, there are three levels of the word simulator. After passing the first level, the words fall into the second, and then into the third, and already after that they are firmly memorized and replenish the vocabulary.
For convenience, you can mark any page as “mastered”. It makes it easy to find where you left off, to repeat mastered content, or to choose new.



On every page of LinguaLeo there is a so-called “compass”. He suggests a language learning methodology and gives advice on the use of service functionality. The service calculates the activity of mastering content and words, passing simulators and records statistics in the development log. He also shows progress and predicts the time to reach the target level.
