After the acquisition of a new laptop (its
review on Habré) with the 64-bit Windows 7 installed, the question arose of migrating the Eclipse development process. If everything went quite smoothly with workspacs, the platform itself presented an unpleasant surprise:
The 64-bit version for Windows is not available on the
main page for downloading various editions of Eclips.
There are two ways to solve this problem:
1) install the 32-bit version of the JVM and, accordingly, use the 32-bit Eclipse
2) select
the appropriate version of the base platform here and already there find the link 64 bit version for Windows. After downloading, unpacking and running the product, install the necessary functionality for you (from the Help-> Install New Software ... menu) from the Galileo website update.
Disadvantages of these solutions:
in the first case, you need to install an additional JVM, you will also receive additional restrictions in available memory, working in WOW64 mode. In the second, you will have to download the necessary plug-ins "independently" (that is, there is some additional headache in the form of a choice from the long list of available packages).
In both cases, I cannot name the problems as very significant, however, their presence does not allow us to be completely satisfied with the situation.
In other matters, not to me alone. In Eclips' bugzilla there are enough requests on this subject, I’ll note only currently
open , in the comments to which you can find an explanation of the lack of builds for win 64: they do not have enough resources for testing under "another platform."

Tip of the day:
If when you start Eclips, it pleases you with the message “JVM terminated. Exit code = -1 ... and then just a list of parameters with which the launch was performed, it is recommended to check the compatibility of the launched JVM (java -version) and Eclips.
