What is Fireworks and why is it needed?

In our country, this graphic editor has not gained popularity. It so happened that the average cost of Internet traffic to download it, or the cost of the media on which it is recorded, is on average equal to the Adobe Creative Suite package. This is partly why everyone uses Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to create web design. Well, now, for me personally, it's time to think about software licensing.

I myself am not a web designer, I am a programmer. The main tasks that I accomplish with the help of a graphical editor are a minimal modification of raster and vector graphics, cutting of the finished design, image optimization, prototyping, etc. Photoshop and Illustrator solve these problems without problems, but Fireworks is also able to solve them. And now let's remember about the cost of Photoshop + Illustrator ($ 700 + $ 600) and compare with the cost of Fireworks ($ 300).

It often happens that Fireworks cannot cope with the display of native Photoshop and Illustrator files. There are glitches with the display of some effects. In such cases, a reference screenshot usually helps, which allows you to understand where the problem is and, if possible, correct it. There are also alternative editors (Gimp, Pixelmator), which open the source file, but with their own glitches that are not in Fireworks.

Thus, Fireworks is unlikely to interest designers already working in Photoshop, its main users are programmers, layout designers, designers and a small number of designers (at least in Russia).

Having rummaged in RuNet for the presence of a video about Fireworks in Russian, I came across a kind of vacuum. All available links led to Youtube. Here I turned to it, and search results under habrakat. Who will be interested in these videos? First of all, programmers, partly layout makers, who want to understand how web design is created and why they don't always need Photoshop.

The process of creating a site in Fireworks

For a short time interval video create a full site of course fail. Therefore, there is no time for a thorough drawing of the design, and the capabilities of Fireworks are certainly inferior to Photoshop. The resulting layout is based on the tables. This is rather a prototype than a real site, but for simple tasks it may be suitable. The purpose of the article and these videos is to show the capabilities of Fireworks, that in many cases it can replace Photoshop and Illustrator. As a programmer, it was interesting for me to observe the designer’s work and master some simple actions.

Very nice movie in 2 parts. First, a layout of the site design is created in Fireworks, then the project is exported to Dreamweaver, corrected a bit and the site is ready. According to the site creation video, it took 20 minutes, but the author already had blanks. But still for a short time turned out pretty nice design and working layout on the tables.

Youtube contains videos telling about working in Fireworks as a series of lessons, but I think this is not the most convenient way. It is better to download these lessons (attention torrent) in full and watch locally.
