Internet tv
In connection with the improvement of tariffs of our providers (now 2.5 Mbit for 450 rubles), I became interested in Internet television. I am attracted to two points: the opportunity to watch sports broadcasts, which we don’t have or only on the satellite (NTV +), the opportunity to watch English-language channels, as there is a desire to learn to understand English.
Technology
The easiest option to watch TV over the Internet is
IPTV . This technology is spreading, but unfortunately my provider, in my region does not yet provide this service.
Another simple option is streaming video through a browser plugin. At the moment, Flash is very common. There are also options for using Silverlight and ActiveX. The advantage of this approach is simplicity, we simply open the browser, click on the desired link and watch. Cons: few channels, the server at peak load can choke. I remember the first SportBox broadcasts, they had to show some kind of super-match, but the influx of visitors was huge and almost no one could watch it normally.
The next option is the use of special software. Among a dozen programs, there are several: SopCast, TVAnts, StreamTorrent. At the last I want to stay more.

Streamtorrent
StreamTorrent is a free program for streaming to an unlimited number of users using p2p technology (
download ).
After installation, we get the following client:

In the File Search menu, we can search for interesting channels. Playback takes place in such a player.

You can also find links of type st: // GSE0982 ...
Cons: look only that someone posted.
Slight lag. I watched biathlon for about a minute. I listen to the radio for up to 2 minutes.
Pros: the stream is not from a specific server, you can organize your own broadcast. I have not tried to organize my broadcast, so I will not say how it looks.
I liked this technology, I will be glad if there are Russian channels (not yet found) and more channels in good quality.
