For the first time, the mobile platform ST-Ericsson U8500, designed for use in Hi-End smartphones, was announced last year. It is based on the dual-core central processor ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore SMP with a clock frequency of 1.2 GHz and the graphic processor ARM Mali-400.
In the halls of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, one could see a person with a PS3 controller in his hands attached to the ST-Ericsson U8500 platform, and playing a game with frankly amazing graphics for a mobile device.
ST-Ericsson U8500 will work on Android and Symbian. In addition, the platform supports three-dimensional graphics and 1080p HD video, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and FM radio. It is possible to place a photo camera up to 20 megapixel, HD camcorders, multi-channel audio, but we are now impressed only by the ability of the ST-Ericsson U8500 to work with high quality graphics.
Of course, phone manufacturers really shove the ST-Ericsson U8500 into their phones. It seems that the platform has good prospects. It is also likely that some of the devices will be completed with modified Sony gamepads.
