Half a million articles in Russian Wikipedia!

Round numbers, of course, this is not important - but still nice: there are already more than 500,000 articles in the Russian section of Wikipedia. All night and morning, Wikipedia users watched the count of articles waiting for the jubilee with bated breath. As a result, two articles managed to be on the honorable half-million place: about the album Ys of the harp player Joanna News and about the Pokrovsk monastery . How did that happen? Very simple: after the creation of the 500 thousandth article Ys, one of the articles was deleted, and the counter again returned to the mark 499999. At the same time, in connection with the anniversary, they raked a lot of garbage.

The turn was passed, but the work continues: the course for a million (in the English section - more than three million articles) and continuous quality improvement. By the way, we already have almost 1300 articles that have passed a strict quality control: the “chosen” and “good” - and every day they become even more.
