The most popular "engines" were the slowest

The company iTrack presented a rating of site management systems (CMS), compiled on the information about the actual installations on the sites. According to the results, the most popular free WordPress “engine” turned out to be the slowest, while the paid 1C-Bitrix is in third place behind.

The initial selection of rating participants was made using data provided by the analytical portal CMS Magazine. This took into account the number of sites operating on this CMS, their TCI, the number of implementing partners.

A specially trained “spider” (robot program) regularly went around all sites in the .ru zone and collected data for analysis. A total of 2,547,784 domains were surveyed. The proportion of domains that responded within 20 seconds was 65.68%. CMS detected in 13.4% of domains.

The algorithm is based on the search for obvious signs of CMS installations and so-called fingerprints (“fingerprints”) are used to identify CMS. The imprint is a specific line of text placed at a specific address (URL). For example, the presence on the /wp-login.php page of a form with the line wp-login clearly indicates the installation of the WordPress system.

The results obtained for each CMS from the TOP-5 were checked manually by checking 100 randomly selected domains.

So, the clear leader among paid CMS for Russian sites is the 1C-Bitrix system, which occupies almost half of the market - 49.2%. It is followed by NetCat - 27.8% and Host.CMS - 7.6%. UMI.CMS is not far behind the third place - 6.8%. In addition to these engines, Amiro.CMS (4.2%), S-Builder (3.0%) and ABO.CMS (1.4%) are on the market.

As for free CMS, WordPress is a clear favorite with a market share of 41.1%. It is followed by Joomla - 26.1% and DataLife Engine - 16.5%. A significant part of the market (4th place) is taken by uCoz - 7.4%. In addition, Russian sites use Drupal - 4.3%, MODx - 2.8%, TYPO3 - 0.6%, Danneo - 0.6% and CMS Made Simple - 0.5%.

And now the fun part. It turned out that the popularity of the engine does not mean its quality, which reflects the optimization of the code, and, consequently, lower loading speed.

The download speed of sites on different CMS was estimated on a 10-point scale. At the same time, CMS results were taken for 10 points, for which the shortest loading time of the HTML code of the main page of the site was obtained. It should also be noted that according to the research company, the channel capacity during the study remained unchanged.

So, the first place was taken by the free Danneo, which is by far the least popular among all the sites. At the same time, the most popular engines, both paid and free, turned out to be the slowest. And if with free systems, as they say, bribes are smooth, then the developers of the most popular paid product obviously need to think about code optimization. Creators of the same sites can pay attention to the leaders of the test.
