It so happened that the Russian user always wants to have on the computer only the best software. It does not make sense to look for the causes of this phenomenon in the mysterious depths of the Russian soul: this is what a person thinks of when downloading a massive software package of a software monster with a prefix in the name “Pro” or “Ultra edition” from the network and launching it for free, having pulled it out of the network “Crack”, when even the possibilities of the free “Lite” or “Home” version will be enough for him and his grandchildren will be left? The point is, of course, not in greed - we are just like that, the mentality is like this, and the whole essence of this phenomenon is concentrated in the widely known popular slogan about a million and a queen. However, it is possible to talk about this for a long time and thoughtfully, the topic of today's article is only indirectly related to the problems of manifestation of headache among the average Russian user. Everything is much more prosaic - meet another test review of web browsers.

True, the test review is not quite normal for two reasons. Firstly, it is absolutely amateurish (however, what is so unusual here?), And secondly, testing was conducted exclusively in the GNU / Linux environment - which, you see, you rarely see in comparative reviews of web browsers. At first glance, the topic is hopeless, because everyone knows that free software users prefer (you won’t believe it!) Free software, and Firefox is the only one who has achieved universal recognition and fully corresponds to the title of “Free Software” . But not everything is as simple as it seems. New generations of users have already lost the habit of adhering to a solid "party" line, and even in GNU / Linux operating systems they use not very free, and sometimes even completely non-free software. You will be surprised, but, for example, many Free Software supporters do not disdain to use Opera, and the recently born Google Chrome is also gradually gaining popularity.

In general, enough preludes - today there are three browsers on the stage: Firefox 3.6 Final, Opera 10.50 (Internal Build) and Google Chrome Beta 5.0.307.7. Why only they? Firstly, because the most famous. And secondly, there are simply no others on my computer. Do not forget that the review is amateurish. Of the three experimental subjects, all browsers are available for download on the network except Opera 10.50 - this assembly is available only to company employees (I’m firing?), But anyone can try the alpha version released a little earlier, or wait a bit before another publicly available test assembly . In any case, the test results will not be radically different.

Yes, I almost forgot. Test authors usually boast about their hardware potential - well, here I have everything modestly:
OpenSUSE-11.2 with KDE on the desktop
HP Pavilion dv6000 Laptop
Intel Core2 Duo CPU T5550 1.83 GHz processor
Memory 1 GB
Video Integrated Intel Mobile GM965 / GL960

It seems all the necessary listed. You can go to the actual tests. I will not make any far-reaching conclusions or try to set a total score, which should determine the unconditional winner. See for yourself, decide for yourself. As they say, No comments.

Memory consumption
And here, probably, it makes sense to stop in more detail - everything is not so simple as it seems at first glance. I decided to take two parameters - ordinary memory and shared (in the report, respectively - the first digit and the second). The reason is this: both indicators change in the process of browsers (opening and browsing). To whom it is interesting - look, think, understand. I decided not to go into the jungle of the principle of the work of the programs - anyway, the review is amateurish. I also counted all consumption (including opera operapluginwrapper, going as a separate process). I thought it was more correct, because the same Chrome even with a blank page produces four processes.

Workspace Comparison

Here, in general, that's all. I didn’t notice the speed of opening browsers or pages in them with a stopwatch, so as not to upset loved ones with inappropriate behavior when working on the network. Moreover, all three browsers work in principle equally quickly, so the difference is almost imperceptible by sight (if you do not take Turbo-mode into account in Opera).
