Will the Russian government support online media?

Remember the hype about the fact that almost every blog in Russia should be considered the media? Some resource owners even submitted the relevant applications to Rospechat, really becoming the media. Yes, it was quite a long time, the hype subsided, but now we see an unexpected continuation of this whole story.

The fact is that Rospechat announced the start of accepting applications from electronic media for state support in 2010. Receipt of applications will take place right up to September of this year, and the procedure for providing such support plus the conditions for compliance with the competition can be found here .

“The definition of recipients of state support for the production and (or) distribution and replication of socially important products of electronic media, creation and maintenance of websites of social or educational value on the Internet will be made by the established Expert Council. He will determine the size of state support, ”the statement said.

So, the main condition for participation in the competition is agreement with the state information policy. In other words, sites hoping to get support should represent “public and state interests and corresponding to the main directions of the state information policy”. These include all kinds of resources about patriotic education, healthy lifestyles, moral values, family values, and others.

In general, an interesting competition - despite some stinginess of information, I am glad that such actions are held. The first step is the hardest - let us hope that this is only the first step towards the maintenance of the Runet by its own state.
