There was a thought, how it would be possible to improve the mobile J. Metro, it did not appear today, but the idea seems to me interesting.
There is a wonderful program for the Yandex.Metro phone, in general, it is more than useful when you just (for the first time can) come to Moscow, especially helping to predict time without understanding how long to go from station to station and more or less it correctly determines routes, but what’s in it I missed when I arrived.
When you go, it often happens that you don’t understand what station you are going by right now, considering that the trains in the Moscow Metro: firstly they thunder decently, secondly the speakers work in such a way that taking into account the fact that the station still announces and you just will not hear what is now (and there are still cases when the station counter goes astray :) and you are already at the station that will be next). Of course, when you have time to travel, then you can already understand what kind of station it is by the yellowing of the walls, the presence of partitions, and so on, and before that you have to remove headphones to listen to where you are now.
Each phone has a GSM module or whatever is used for communication, and it is able to determine which BS responded to ping (well, even if I have one operator, and I found the BS of another, I may know its identifier (although I may be mistaken). Mobile Yandex.Maps seem to be positioned according to this principle, when he understands where he finds the station and draws the radius on the map where you are.

You can either find the station identifiers on the Internet, or we go through all the metro stations and scan and then make a similar Ya Map and show where we are.
Developing the idea, you can pave the route (to clarify it, how we are going, well, the transition from to October is closed in the morning), and on the map show the point where I am now (taking into account the more or less fixed time between two stations, you can even specify the arrival time on station).
The next step in development can be a function for reading and listening to music at the same time or watching movies, report to the phone’s earpiece (vibrate) that it would be necessary to exit at the next station.

In theory, your idea is remarkable, moreover, it is implemented by us in the form of a special assembly. And the base of the BSK we thus collected some.
But there is a harsh practice that says this: all operators have base stations that serve several subway stations at the same time — to be more precise, this is observed in half the cases. Accuracy of plus or minus three metro stations will not be very likely
To date, we have suspended experiments, and if the situation described above changes, of course, we will implement this functionality for all subsequent versions of J.Metro.
