As many will remember, according to a European Commission ruling that, after almost two years of consideration of the case, confirmed the illegality of installing the default Internet Explorer browser in the Windows operating system, Microsoft is preparing a special patch for its software products that will allow users to choose a browser to work on the Internet. As a result, Europeans will see this browser selection screen (see illustration above). From today, this page is already
open for testing and anyone can pick up a browser.
As you can see in the screenshot, the five most popular browsers are offered by default - Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera, but this is not the entire list. In total, there are 12 options to choose from, which in addition to the above listed included Maxthon, K-Meleon, Flock, Avant, Sleipnir, GreenBrowser and SlimBrowser. In addition to downloading the browser, you can go to its description page. Also, the link at the bottom of the page opens
the terms and conditions for using this selection window, while right in the text there is a link to
instructions for disabling Internet Explorer in various versions of Windows operating systems.
Considering that, in addition to Internet Explorer itself, five more browsers based on its core (add-in) are presented, the balance of power is as follows:
')
IE (IE, Maxthon, Avant, Sleipnir, GreenBrowser, SlimBrowser) - 6
Gecko (Firefox, K-Meleon, Flock) - 3
WebKit (Google Chrome, Safari) - 2
Presto (Opera) - 1
After a brief test, this browser selection window will be “open” officially in March of this year. However, Russian users will choose the browser in the old manner - we do not enter the European Union and their decisions do not apply to us.
