The real war of technology began in the domestic telecommunications market. The Russian provider Yota has contracted with Sony for the supply of Vaio laptops equipped with modules for wireless access to 4G Internet. Laptops will be available in March.
The contract with Sony was a breakthrough in the formation of a whole pool of the world's leading electronics manufacturers who are ready to stimulate the development of 4G communications in Russia. Companies from Taiwan, Acer, Asus and MSI, Chinese Lenovo Lenovo, Korean Samsung and Japanese Toshiba, which supply the WiMAX / Wi-Fi hybrid module to the market especially for Yota, are already participating in this process. The cost of all the models presented is the same as in similar configurations with a simple Wi-Fi module.
WiMAX-communication is characterized by a higher data transfer rate compared to the standards of the second and third generation, so many citizens will probably prefer laptops to mobile phones to access the Internet in traffic jams. Obviously, not everyone will rush to buy laptops and netbooks because of this, but nobody has heard anything about Wi-Fi. By the way, Yota has not accidentally supplied all laptops with two wireless technologies - Wi-Fi and WiMAX. Which of them will prevail is still unclear. There are a lot of examples in history when, at first glance, the progressive and “cool” standard was losing to the old but familiar one. That’s how ingloriously so far the confrontation with DVD has ended for the Blu-ray format.
