Hello,

SEGA Dreamcast has long been a story, the fifth and final console from SEGA. The Dreamcast started selling 12 years ago, and at the time of release this console was the most productive. It was believed that the Dreamcast was four times more powerful than the Pentium 2. In 2001, SEGA announced that it was stopping sales of the console, the Dreamcast could not withstand the onslaught of Sony PlayStation 2, although if SEGA had tried, they would have been able to compete. At the start, the console was selling very well and SEGA didn’t even have time to produce them, because of the wrong analysis of the market.
Perhaps enough of the lyrics, it's time to see what's inside!
The prefix itself is a small 189 × 195 × 76 mm in size, but due to the built-in power supply and metal, it weighs almost 2 kilograms. Front 4 connectors for connecting joysticks, power button and drive open button. On the console, you can play four of them simultaneously, depending on the game, the screen is divided into 4 parts, or everything happens on one screen.

On the back of the video output, power, Serial (don’t know why) and RJ-11 for the modem. The console could produce pure VGA (640x480) without interlacing.

Dreamcast, supported games ported with WindowsCE. But the most popular application from WindowsCE was the browser.

The drive was developed by Yamaha and it was called GD-ROM. The discs were 1.2 GB in size, regular CDs were also supported, moreover, all pirated copies came out on CD.

A removable Dialup modem is located on the right side, an Ethernet adapter could be installed instead, but it was very expensive.

Familiar names CONEXANT, oh I remember my first modem ...

On the back of the controller from SEGA.

MADE IN INDONESIA, now this is rarely seen, but look further into the photos and see a lot of different countries and brands. It seems that all the companies have merged and released the console together.

Well? Unscrew the 4 screws and remove the top part! The prefix is assembled solidly, everything is in its place, nothing dangles. On the left is the power supply, in the middle is the drive with the controller, below is the board with the battery and the joystick inputs, just to the right of the fan.

Turn off the drive and see that the mechanics are not screwed in any way and are simply mounted on rubber substrates.

Samsung is written on the body of the controller and is made in China, although it is said everywhere that drives are made by Yamaha.

On the reverse side is the connection interface with the motherboard.

The TOSHIBA chip is already on the controller!

Unscrew the power supply.

6 power pins stick out of the motherboard, the power supply unit slides over it. And everything is done soundly, nothing dangles and does not falter.

Board with connectors for connecting joysticks, connected to the motherboard with a flexible cable. It is the battery and power for the fan.

Remove the metal cover, covering the motherboard, which in combination is also a radiator.

The prelude is over, here it is beautiful, the ideal of technical thought! Made in Japan. I think many IT people will figure out where that is, architecture as in textbooks. Again a glimpse of a variety of manufacturers.

Joysticks SEGA Dreamcast is a separate story. In the hands of the controller is great, it is convenient to press all the buttons. The cord of the joystick comes out of the bottom, because top connectors for connecting memory cards, but with a simple design, the cable is easily fixed and does not interfere with play. The Xbox 360 joystick is like a logical continuation of the old Dreamcast. Microsoft made the right choice, which took as a basis such an ergonomic design.

One line ...

My memory card is not of original origin, and the soldering proves it.

I want to thank my friend who presented the VGA Box, and put a second life into the console.

On it I will finish the narration. I hope you were interested to look at a piece of history.
Good luck to you!
