Background:
Before the New Year, the Player from IconBit - HD40NMT came into my hands, I really liked it - no noise, small and omnivorous. So to say the necessary thing in the house, it is very convenient to use it in replacing the player - xb0x360 / ps3 (burned out). I’ll say right away that a home media server compiled on an old Linux-based adlon, with a samba, a torrent and a UPNP server, acts as a source of audio / video content.
I bought 40NMT as a gift, but for now I was going to buy myself, it appeared on the market: HDS41L.
I liked the fact that it looks like it’s 40NMT, but you can still shove a notebook-HDD into it, which gives:
- Extra bed;
- Ability to install additional. applications such as a torrent client (in 40NMT an external disk is needed for this).
Story:
I bought myself this miracle, plugged in, stuck a 40GB drive into it (left over from PS3), set it up - everything works great, everything shows.
I turned on the cartoons “Well, wait a minute!” - in the fourth series I notice that the picture is frayed (like satellite / digital), I’m following, the next series is still the same, I’m shaking the first one - the picture is falling, although it was fine before!
I tried to run a heavy MKV - it's not possible to watch.
The thought that the CPU is overheating (with 40NMT was not like this) crept in - later it turned out that the player showed 20 minutes of cooling down and “Well, wait a minute” without “scattering”.

Examination of the patient:
Turning the player in my hands and not seeing any warranty seals, I armed myself with a screwdriver and crawled inside:

The cover is removed with a bang, you just need to unscrew 8 bolts, four on each side, plus two more bolts to remove the slide under the internal HDD.

Here are the insides. There is only one radiator on the board, under which the CPU hides.
Want to see how it fits?

And it is attached to a double-sided thermal scraper, which in my opinion is far from the best option for normal cooling.

The radiator is easily removed and opened under a Realtek chip:

By the way, compared with the 40NMT, this player has less radiator, + 40NMT has space around the radiator, and there are more ventilation holes in the case. Immediately with the internal HDD installed, the gap between the disk and the radiator is less than 5mm, and the ventilation holes are quite a bit - most of them are closed due to the slide under the disk.
Operation:
I decided to upgrade the cooling system.
I really didn’t want to use any coolers in order to leave the system silent, as a result of searching in the nearest stores, I got a cooler for a processor in a 1U case.

I chose him as the donor of the copper radiator.
With the help of a hacksaw, a vice and a file, the radiator soon took on the desired shape and glued directly onto the chip using hot melt glue.
In addition, I stuck the radiators on the memory chips and on the CPU on the back of the board (surprisingly there was enough space, about 5mm)

In addition, since I have a player installed vertically (otherwise I can't), I had to think up a leg for him to increase the air gap between the shelf where the player is installed and its case.
The leg turned out very simple, from a usual clip, bent in the necessary form and pasted on a double-sided tape.

Actually that's all
Now my player feels much better, even in the dense surroundings of his electronic friends.
