AOL announced today that it bought Third Screen Media, the leader of a mobile ad network, mobile advertising service and advertising management system. Third Screen Media will now operate as an AOL-owned Advertising.com division.
“AOL owns one of four major advertising businesses on the Internet, and the purchase of Third Screen Media strengthens our position in the fast-growing mobile advertising world,” said Randy Falco, Chairman of the Board and CEO of AOL. “This acquisition also gives us the opportunity to provide the advertiser with a more complete package of advertising services, such as displaying advertisements tied to search queries, so now is a great set of mobile advertising solutions.”
Third Screen Media unites advertisers, advertising agencies and users into a single whole, allowing you to manage advertising campaigns and deliver advertising via WAP, downloadable applications, SMS, MMS and mobile video. Dozens of advertisers, hundreds of advertising agencies and a huge number of mobile device users are involved in the Third Screen Media network.

The company was acquired because the mobile advertising market is growing exponentially. In the USA, the mobile advertising market is expected to grow from $ 421 million in 2006 to $ 4.7 billion by 2011, while globally, according to eMarket, this market will grow to $ 11.3 billion by the same year.
“This acquisition brings together two pioneers in the online advertising niche,” says Thomas Burgess, founder and CEO of Third Screen Media. “Advertising.com has long been an advertising network for those who watch, and Third Screen Media has created a new advertising niche thanks to our technical innovations and a technically advanced mobile network. Together, we can now offer advertisers and advertising agencies a full package of advertising services for any type of device, platform and program. ”
Third Screen Media will continue to be located in Boston. Financial parties to the transaction have not been disclosed.
