We test the server with Intel Core i7-860 filling
So, once again, hostkey.ru passed an order for renting a server based on Core i7-860 and we decided to make a note about our typical high-performance single-processor platform.
Please love and favor, ASUS RS300-E6 / PS4 . This is a single-unit machine 600 mm deep, 4 hot 3.5 ”SATA disks on the motherboard with one 1156 socket. Included are telescopic rails and a processor heatsink.

DDR3 memory can be supplied up to 32GB, integrated CATA supports RAID 0,1,10. You can deliver an integrated KVM with a separate Ethernet port. On the mother 2 gigabit ezerneta.

All new virtualization technologies are supported, 64 bits and all that. The price of the processor is 350 dollars.
We installed Windows Server 2008 on the server and tested the performance and power consumption using the Passmark test, the drives were in RAID 1:
In total, the system is 30% more productive than the server based on Core2Quad 2.66 from the previous test, the reading speed from the RAID array is more than twice the performance of other platforms. Work with memory at the same level as that of C2D / C2Q.
The power consumption of the system was 0.5A (100 watts) in standby mode and 0.8A (275 watts) under the stress test.
We recommend this platform for use as a loaded application server, for hosting a large portal and for broadcasting projects - where high processor performance is required and there are no high memory requirements and speed of the disk subsystem. If the server application is not too optimized for multi-threaded work and require maximum processor speed in single-threaded mode, then you need to take a server based on Core i7.
Four 3.5 ”disks allow you to organize disk space up to 8TB, in RAID 10 mode up to 4TB, you will not be able to do more in a 1U package. The platform allows you to use the same SAS disks, we put them when ordering individual configurations - it takes the same time as the typical solution.
The platform ranks at the top of the Hostkey line for single-processor servers — it can be done faster now only using Core i7-960 ($ 700). The next performance step is achieved on 2 processor machines based on the Xeon E5530 ($ 650) - these will be discussed later.
